World No Tobacco Day

Active participation pf Nursing College Abha in the World No Tobacco day:

1. Objective of the Activity:
The main goal of the session was to raise awareness among high school students about the dangers of smoking, its short- and long-term health effects, and ways to avoid or quit smoking. The session aimed to empower students with knowledge and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.

2. Participants:
School: Nine High School, Abha
Audience: Approximately 50 students (Grades 10–12)
Facilitators: Community health nursing students

Guest Speaker: Dr. Mona Alzhrani, Pediatric Nursing Lecturer

3. Key Topics Covered:
- What is smoking and why people start
- Health risks associated with smoking (lung cancer, heart disease, etc.)
- The impact of smoking on youth and academic performance
- Secondhand smoke and its effects on families
- Misconceptions about e-cigarettes and vaping
- How to say "no" and resist peer pressure
- Available support resources for quitting

4. Methods Used:
- PowerPoint presentation with visuals and statistics
- Short awareness video on smoking hazards
- Live Q&A session with the health team
- Interactive quiz with small prizes
- Distribution of educational brochures and flyers

5. Student Engagement:
Students participated actively and asked insightful questions. Many shared concerns about family members or peers who smoke and expressed interest in further awareness campaigns.
