Department of Fundamentals of Nursing 

The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing is one of the six core academic departments supporting the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the College of Nursing, King Khalid University. It serves as a foundational pillar in preparing professional nurses by offering comprehensive education that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The department’s vision aligns with the mission and goals of both the college and the university, emphasizing academic excellence, community service, and the advancement of healthcare quality.

The department views nursing as a science, an art, and a disciplined profession focused on providing holistic care that promotes health, prevents illness, facilitates rehabilitation, and maintains physical and psychological well-being across all stages of life. It is committed to producing graduates who are well-equipped with the knowledge, clinical skills, and ethical values necessary to deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care.

The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing consists of four specialized teaching units covering key areas such as general nursing care, health assessment, basic nursing skills, and professional safety principles. These units offer a range of educational activities including lectures, laboratory-based simulations, and clinical training in real healthcare settings.

In addition to academic instruction, the department emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork among students. This ensures that graduates are well-prepared to work competently in diverse healthcare environments across both the public and private sectors. Furthermore, the department actively contributes to research initiatives and community service, reinforcing its role in promoting a healthy and informed society.

Preparing highly qualified nursing cadres that meet the needs of the community, and contribute to providing the necessary basic care for patients in various specialties

Qualifying female students to work with members of the health team to provide integrated health care for patients.

Introducing female students to the nursing profession, Islamic and international history of the nursing profession and nursing theories.

It gives me great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, one of the six academic pillars of the Bachelor of Nursing program at the College of Nursing, King Khalid University. This department represents the true starting point of a student's journey into the nursing profession, where we are committed to providing distinguished education that integrates both theoretical and practical aspects, in accordance with international standards and best nursing practices.

Our work in the department aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to develop the education and healthcare systems by preparing qualified health professionals who contribute to improving quality of life and achieving sustainable development. We are proud to be part of this ambitious national transformation by helping to prepare nurses capable of delivering comprehensive healthcare based on strong scientific and ethical foundations.

The department comprises four specialized teaching units: General Nursing Care, Health Assessment, Basic Nursing Skills, and Principles of Occupational Safety. These units are delivered through advanced educational programs that include lectures, hands-on training in a modern simulation environment, and clinical applications in healthcare institutions. This approach allows students to acquire real-world skills that qualify them to work efficiently in the evolving healthcare job market.

We also place great emphasis on developing our students’ personal and professional skills, such as critical thinking, effective communication, teamwork, and decision-making—skills that are essential to modern healthcare and aligned with the national vision of building a conscious and healthy society.

Our role goes beyond education. We are also dedicated to supporting scientific research and engaging in community service through initiatives and projects that promote a culture of health and prevention and contribute to addressing health challenges in our beloved homeland.

In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all faculty members and supporting staff for their dedication and sincerity. I also commend our dear students and encourage them to strive diligently and make the most of every educational opportunity, so they may become active contributors to the advancement of nursing and healthcare development in the Kingdom.
